The City and Borough of Juneau Assembly has approved just over $11.1m for a capital project at Aurora Harbor, the Juneau Empire reports.
The money, from a US Department of Transportation Maritime Administration port infrastructure grant, will pay for a drive-down float and vehicle bridge at the harbour and two float-mounted electric cranes able to lift up to three tons.
The vote came at Monday's reorganisation meeting, where new members Joyce Niven and Mila Cosgrove and re-elected member Paul Kelly took their oaths, replacing departing members Christine Woll and Alicia Hughes-Skandijs. Greg Smith was kept on as deputy mayor. The Assembly also unanimously rejected a proposed ban on electric motorcycles in parks, trails and parts of the Eaglecrest Ski Area, asking staff instead to draft wider citywide rules for motorised vehicles after residents complained of young teenagers damaging trails.
