Former West Bengal minister Indranil Sen has been remanded in police custody for 13 days over an alleged Durga Puja ticket scam, The Hindu reports.
Sen, who served as tourism and culture minister under the previous Trinamool Congress government, was arrested on Wednesday after the Calcutta High Court refused him anticipatory bail. Police say they have found transactions he could not explain, and that the complaint concerns ₹34 crore, though the full money trail is still being checked.
Kolkata Police and the Enforcement Directorate are investigating alleged irregularities in ticket sales by MassArt, an organisation headed by his wife that ran exclusive festival previews. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari suggested proceeds were shared with former chief minister Mamata Banerjee, while Trinamool's Abhishek Banerjee said opponents of the government were being jailed.
