Three of the four candidates for governor of Alaska found broad agreement on education, fisheries and public safety at a forum during the Alaska Federation of Natives convention in Anchorage on Friday, the Alaska Beacon reports.
Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins and Republicans Dave Bronson and Treg Taylor took part. Bernadette Wilson, the Republican endorsed by President Donald Trump, visited the convention but did not join the panel.
The sharpest difference was over subsistence rights. Kreiss-Tomkins, a former state lawmaker from Sitka, was applauded for pledging to uphold the rural subsistence priority confirmed in the Katie John litigation. Taylor, as attorney general under Governor Mike Dunleavy, led the state's unsuccessful legal challenge to that priority over Kuskokwim River salmon fishing. AFN, holding its 60th convention, represents more than 140,000 people.
