Labour migrants and international students are among the groups most likely to leave Sweden, according to a new report from Statistics Sweden (SCB), The Local reports.
The agency followed the 315,000 foreign citizens who moved to Sweden between 2010 and 2013. By 2025, 58% had become Swedish citizens and 27% had emigrated, while 72% of the whole group were still living in the country.
Among those who came on work permits or as students, together with their families, only 53% remained, with the rest either having emigrated or died. Of those who stayed, 79% now hold Swedish citizenship. The report found that refugees and their relatives were the most likely to become citizens, while people from EU and EEA countries were the least likely.
