Apple's chief executive, John Ternus, has defended the company's slower approach to artificial intelligence, saying it will use the technology in new products but will not release AI features just for the sake of it, TechCrunch reports.
In an interview with Wired's Steven Levy, Mr Ternus, who became chief executive in September, acknowledged that critics see Apple as lagging behind rivals, particularly after delays to a more capable version of Siri, which arrived this summer. He said he was happy with Apple's position and that users should not need to think about whether a feature relies on AI or conventional software.
Asked whether AI agents could make apps redundant, he said that might make life easier but argued that making products remained a deeply human activity.
