The Alaska School Activities Association is setting up a committee to look at how high school football is structured in the state, Alaska's News Source reports.
ASAA executive director Billy Strickland said 27 schools field football teams, ranging in enrolment from about 90 to about 1,800 pupils, which is why several divisions are needed. One option is to bring nine-man football, which currently runs its own schedule and championship outside ASAA, into the association as its smallest division.
The season ended with volunteers, including Strickland, spending hours clearing snow from the field and stands at Colony High School before Friday's Division I state final. He said few new schools were likely to take up the sport.
