Meta's new business terms, which publishers say would let the company's automated systems copy and use their website content, including for AI training, are due to take effect on 20 November, yet judges in Brazil and Norway have already halted them for certain publishers, The Rio Times reports. A São Paulo civil court granted an injunction sought by Brazil's newspaper, broadcaster and magazine associations, announced on 3 November.
The order bars Meta from collecting or using member outlets' content without permission and requires it to keep their pages and tools active without penalty for rejecting the terms. Breaches carry a fine of R$1m a day, capped at R$100m. Publishers argue that continuing to use Meta's platforms would count as accepting the terms. A court in Oslo had already ordered Meta on 28 October not to apply the changes in Norway.
