Detective raped by David Carrick calls on Met chief to resign after settling claim

·

A detective who was raped by David Carrick, the former Metropolitan Police officer, says the Met commissioner should step down, describing the force's handling of her legal claim as like being attacked all over again, The Guardian reports.

Linda Williams, 60, who has waived her anonymity, was raped by Carrick in 2004. She sued the Met for failing to protect her and has now settled for an undisclosed six-figure sum, without the force admitting liability.

Williams, a former sexual offences officer, said the process left her feeling controlled and powerless and drove her to consider suicide. She said the Met's lawyers questioned the severity of her post-traumatic stress disorder and that she would not report a rape today.

Carrick, 51, a former armed officer, is serving 37 life sentences for attacks on more than a dozen women.
