Indonesian police have detained three suspects accused of illegally tapping the phones of President Prabowo Subianto and other senior figures, CNA reports. Police gave only the suspects' initials, but local media including Kompas named one as former national police chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who was removed from that post on 1 October and became chief of presidential staff. Two other senior officers were also named by local outlets.
The head of the police criminal investigation agency said the suspects allegedly intercepted, without following proper procedures, the numbers of the president, state officials, politicians, journalists, NGO and community leaders and business people. He said the case came to light on 30 October when officers who knew of the activity reported it. A fourth person is being questioned as a witness. The three are being held at national police headquarters.
