India's foreign ministry has said that tension on its border with China flares when Chinese troops depart from agreed patrol patterns, The Hindu reports, after a senior officer confirmed continuing face-offs in Arunachal Pradesh.
Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday that both sides were using diplomatic and military channels to avoid misunderstanding along the Line of Actual Control, and had agreed to discuss improving understanding of the boundary in some areas. He referred detailed questions to the defence ministry.
On Thursday the director-general of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Shatrujeet Kapur, said face-offs had occurred at several locations in Arunachal in recent days and were still going on. The Hindu, citing government sources, reports a stand-off since late July at Asaphila, where Chinese troops have set up camp near Indian positions.
