People who live and work along Iran's side of the Strait of Hormuz say the war that began on 28 February has made daily life harder and more dangerous, The Guardian reports. A ferry captain on the route from the Bandar Abbas area to Hormuz Island said crossings had continued, though with fewer passengers and regular sounds of explosions, and that his boat was hit by shrapnel while docked.

Iranian government sources say attacks on Bandar Abbas have damaged 760 fishing and commercial vessels. Fishers in Hormozgan province said they can no longer go as far out to sea, and many residents left the city for remote villages early in the war. The paper notes that Iranian forces have repeatedly attacked ships in the strait, with at least 12 tanker attacks reported in the first week of October.
