Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told Israeli diplomats to adjust the country's stated view of the Falkland Islands dispute in Argentina's favour, GB News reports, citing The Telegraph. The shift falls short of formally endorsing Argentina's claim.
At a UN meeting last week, Israel's ambassador Danny Danon said Israel recognised how much the issue mattered to Argentines and backed diplomatic efforts in line with international law. A source told The Telegraph it was the first time Israel had taken a position on the dispute.
The move follows Energy Secretary Ed Miliband's measures against businesses linked to West Bank settlements, after which Israel closed the British consulate in Jerusalem and barred 12 British officials. Netanyahu is close to Argentine President Javier Milei. The UK government has set out a plan to counter what it calls Argentina's escalating campaign over the islands.
