Support for Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's government has fallen below 50%, its lowest level since she took office in October last year, according to a Kyodo News poll reported by the Japan Times.
Kyodo linked the drop to her handling of the resignation of farm minister Kazuo Yana, who quit on Wednesday after criticism of comments about cutting road funding for municipalities that had not supported him. In the survey, 57.7% of respondents said Takaichi had acted too late in replacing him, while 81.5% said it was right that he resigned. Takaichi had appointed Yana in a cabinet reshuffle last month and later rebuked him in parliament over the remarks, which local media first reported earlier this month.
