Three taken to hospital after head-on crash between two cars in Trysil, Norway

·

Three people were taken to hospital after two cars collided head-on on county road 26 in Trysil, eastern Norway, on Sunday afternoon, NRK reports.

One of the drivers was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut free by firefighters. Police said one person was flown to hospital by air ambulance and the other two were taken by road ambulance. The extent of their injuries was not yet known.

Police described the collision as serious, and traffic queued in both directions while emergency services worked at the scene. The road reopened shortly after 4pm local time once the first vehicle had been recovered. Police have opened a case to investigate the cause. The route is busy and lies close to the holiday cabin areas of Trysil, one of Norway's largest cabin municipalities.
