The Gulf Cooperation Council has asked Russia to use its seat on the UN Security Council to push Iran into ending attacks on Gulf states, at a meeting with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Manama, Bahrain, on Sunday, The National reports.
GCC Secretary General Jasem Al Budaiwi said Iran had fired more than 7,000 ballistic missiles and drones at member states since the US and Israel began their war against Iran on 28 February, hitting airports, ports, power and desalination plants and energy sites. He also condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, including the 10 October strike on Riyadh's main airport. Lavrov said Russia backed diplomacy to avoid a return to full-scale war and presented an updated Russian proposal for collective security in the Gulf.
