A US Air Force officer has died after falling while rappelling from the roof of the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, ahead of Saturday's college football match between UTSA and Navy, The Guardian reports.
The officer, whose name has not been released, was taking part in a pre-game Salute to Armed Forces and Veterans event when he fell on to the field. He received treatment there and was taken to hospital, where he died. Nellis Air Force Base said he served with the 6th Combat Training Squadron, which teaches personnel to rappel from helicopters.
Kick-off was delayed by about 10 minutes. UTSA said it was deeply saddened and offered its thoughts to his family and colleagues.
