Victorian Coalition MPs criticise Advance campaign urging voters to put Labor last

·

Coalition MPs in Victoria have criticised a campaign by the conservative lobby group Advance ahead of next month's state election, warning it could cost them a majority, Guardian Australia reports.

Advance plans to campaign from Monday in 20 Labor-held suburban and regional seats, with an AI-generated advertisement featuring the premier, Ben Carroll, and his predecessors, urging voters to put Labor last. The group has described the roughly A$350,000 campaign as a test run for the next federal election.

Several Coalition MPs, speaking anonymously, said the message cut across their own argument that only a Coalition vote could defeat Labor, and noted that One Nation is targeting several of the same seats. An Advance spokesperson rejected the criticism and pointed to polling on voters' preferences.
