Chancellor John Healey has said Wednesday's budget will commit hundreds of millions of pounds to what he called a distinctively British approach to artificial intelligence, including the largest ever investment in protecting the country against cyber risks, The Guardian reports.
Healey said there would be new funding for the AI Security Institute and other key bodies, as well as public money to support beneficial uses of the technology. He said AI could help every business, hospital and school, but that the government shared workers' concerns and would not leave them behind.
It will be Healey's first budget since Andy Burnham became prime minister in the summer, and comes as the war in the Middle East pushes up energy costs, with oil briefly rising above $117 a barrel on Friday, although official figures show AI investment helped the UK lead G7 growth in the first half.
