North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has set his armed forces the goal of becoming the most powerful military on the planet, during a gathering of company-level commanders held in Pyongyang over Thursday and Friday, according to the state news agency KCNA, the South China Morning Post reports. Kim described the effort as a Korean-style military revolution.
The call came in the same week that Seoul's armed forces offered talks on where the border line runs, following a blast inside the demilitarised zone that added to strains between the two countries.
North and South Korea remain technically at war, because the 1950-53 Korean war ended with an armistice rather than a peace treaty. The report did not give further details of the measures discussed at the meeting.
