Former Argentine president Cristina Kirchner met Brazilian congressman André Janones in Buenos Aires on Monday, with Argentina's Peronist opposition hoping to learn how to defeat Javier Milei at the 2027 polls, MercoPress reports. Janones runs a WhatsApp channel with more than 10.4 million followers that is credited with helping Brazil's president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, secure another term by defeating Flávio Bolsonaro on 25 October.
Kirchner, who is under house arrest serving a six-year corruption sentence and is banned for life from public office, posed for a photo with him that drew tens of thousands of reactions within an hour. Janones also met Sergio Massa but not Buenos Aires governor Axel Kicillof, who is vying with the Kirchner and Massa camp for the 2027 candidacy. Kirchner told The Washington Post she could run again if her political rights were restored.
