Police in Mangaluru, in the Indian state of Karnataka, have arrested a Catholic priest accused of sexually assaulting five boys aged 14, The Hindu reported.
The city's police commissioner said Siprian Pinto, priest at St Vincent Ferrer Church in the Valencia area, was detained at a relative's home. He is due to be brought before a magistrate once questioning is complete.
The complaint was filed with Mangaluru South police on 15 October. One boy alleged that the priest had touched him inappropriately on several visits to the church, and four friends then said they had had similar experiences. The family first raised the matter with the Bishop of Mangaluru, who told them to go to the police. The case has been registered under India's child sexual offences law.
