Axel Rudakubana, the Southport attacker who killed three young girls at a children's dance workshop in 2024, may never face trial over alleged attacks on staff at HMP Belmarsh, GB News reports.
He joined Monday's hearing at the Old Bailey by video link from Broadmoor Hospital. He is accused of throwing a mixture of boiling water and sugar at a prison officer and, in a separate incident, of pouring an unknown liquid over a female emergency worker. He also faces charges of possessing an offensive weapon and a further assault.
His barrister said a report was being prepared on whether he is fit to take part in a trial, and that lawyers would discuss with prosecutors whether to go ahead, given that he is already serving a minimum term of 52 years. The judge declined to arraign him. The case will be reviewed on 5 February.
