The Metropolitan Police has opened an investigation into an allegation that a woman was raped inside the Democratic Unionist Party's offices at Westminster in 2016, with the claim made against the party's jailed former leader Jeffrey Donaldson, Politico Europe reports.
The Met, which did not name the suspect and described him only as a man aged 63, said it had received an evidence file from the Police Service of Northern Ireland, whose detectives interviewed the woman on 13 October. It said the inquiry was at an early stage and no arrests had been made.
Donaldson was jailed for 15 years last week for sexual offences against two girls and is appealing against his conviction. The woman's account first appeared in the Belfast Telegraph in July.
