Nigeria restores Ebola health declaration for all international arrivals

·

Nigeria's Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is again requiring all international travellers to complete a health declaration, after a confirmed Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory, Premium Times reports.

The agency's director-general, Jide Idris, told a briefing in Abuja on Sunday that the rule had earlier been narrowed to passengers from countries linked to the outbreak, such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, and that this had now been reversed. Aviation authorities have been asked to implement it, with preparations focused on airports in Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, Kano and Port Harcourt.

The patient, a 42-year-old Ugandan woman who arrived from Uganda on 3 October, was confirmed on 20 October to have the Bundibugyo strain. Officials have identified 53 primary contacts, most linked to the health facility where she was treated, who are being monitored for 21 days.
