Nigerian court nullifies Atiku Abubakar ADC presidential candidacy

·

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday nullified former vice-president Atiku Abubakar presidential ticket for the African Democratic Congress and sacked the party David Mark-led caretaker leadership, Premium Times reports.

Justice Peter Lifu ruled the Mark committee illegal and voided its primary that produced Atiku, national officers including Rauf Aregbesola, and all ADC candidates filed with INEC for the 2027 elections. The suit was brought by former ADC deputy national chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe.

If upheld on appeal, the ADC would be barred from fielding candidates. Atiku and the party say they will challenge the judgment; Punch reported he called the timing an attempt to weaken the opposition.
