US and Mexican rescuers are still searching for 11 people missing after a boat sank off Mexico's Baja California coast early on Friday, Al Jazeera reports.
The US Coast Guard said 16 Mexican nationals were pulled from the water and flown to San Diego, some with severe injuries consistent with shark bites. Survivors said 27 people had been on board. A mayday call was made at about 1am, and a helicopter arrived roughly two hours later. The boat went down about 225km west of Ensenada, an area used by fishing and leisure craft but also by smugglers. The Coast Guard and US Navy, helped by the Mexican Navy, are using aircraft and boats in the search.
