South Africa beat Australia by an innings in Gqeberha to level Test series

·

South Africa have beaten Australia by an innings and 31 runs in the second Test at St George's Park in Gqeberha, levelling the three-match series at 1-1, Al Jazeera reports.

Australia were bowled out for 295 in their second innings in the final session on Thursday, shortly before bad weather arrived. Travis Head scored 121 and the nightwatchman Scott Boland made a Test-best 40, but Wiaan Mulder, Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen took the last four wickets.

Rain had wiped out most of the first two days, and South Africa were struggling at 110 for six before their captain, Temba Bavuma, made 179 to help them declare on 425 for nine. Australia were then dismissed for 99 in their first innings and asked to follow on. The deciding Test is still to come.
