Swedish police have urged drivers to take care on slippery roads after a series of fatal crashes on Monday, The Local reports.
In western Sweden, a man in his 60s died after a bus and a car collided near Varberg, and two other people of a similar age were killed in separate incidents in Mellerud municipality and on the island of Tjörn. Two more people died in Skåne in the south, one on the E6 north of Ängelholm and one in a collision with a lorry near Åstorp.
A police spokesperson said it was not yet known whether road conditions played a part in the crashes, but patrols had reported slippery surfaces. The morning warning covered Gävleborg, Uppsala and Västmanland, though ice may form elsewhere. The Swedish Transport Administration has warned of a growing risk of black ice, which is hard to see and often forms around freezing point.
