Tommy Robinson, whose legal name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, became tearful while giving evidence at Southwark Crown Court in his trial on two charges of harassment causing fear of violence, GB News reports. He denies both.
The 43-year-old told jurors he felt frightened after a Daily Mail article about his comments on the 2024 Southport riots was published while he was on holiday in Cyprus. He said people began sharing the name of his hotel online and his family changed rooms.
He accepted that he hired private investigators to find and photograph the homes of the freelance journalist Andrew Young and the editor Jacob Dirnhuber, but said he wanted to put pressure on the paper rather than intimidate anyone. He also said posting a picture of Mr Dirnhuber outside his home was reasonable in the circumstances. The trial continues.
