Nigeria's federal government has ordered government bodies and hospitals at its borders, airports and ports to apply Ebola checks in full, after reports that the approved rules were being ignored, Premium Times reports.
The health ministry issued the directive in a circular dated 22 October, after the National Security Adviser's office flagged breaches of the protocols. It requires screening, health declarations and surveillance at entry points, better information sharing between the bodies involved, and prompt reporting of any actual or attempted breach.
The ministry said enforcement must be consistent and non-discriminatory and that staff should be able to do their jobs without interference. The move comes as authorities trace contacts of a woman confirmed with Ebola in the Federal Capital Territory after arriving from Uganda.
