Oslo District Court has temporarily barred Meta from bringing in new terms for business accounts that Norwegian media companies say would let it use their content to train artificial intelligence, Norwegian broadcaster NRK reports.
Meta had planned to update its platforms on 20 November. The ruling stops the changes until a court has decided whether they are lawful, giving members of the Norwegian Media Businesses' Association (MBL) a first-round win against the technology company. Meta was also ordered to pay more than one million kroner in legal costs.
The media groups argue the new terms would allow Meta to train AI on their journalism and distribute it without consent. A Meta spokesperson told NRK the company did not plan to change its terms without full consultation with industry bodies, which could take longer than 20 November.
