Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says the authorities prevented a possible provocation on the border with Russia's Kaliningrad exclave, Meduza reports, citing comments he made before a cabinet meeting reported by RMF 24. Tusk said the Border Guard alerted him shortly after midnight to suspicious activity, with people carrying flashlights seen along the frontier.
He said personnel and equipment were mobilised quickly and the attempt was stopped. According to RMF 24, the group was seen near Sępopol in the Warmian-Masurian province, and nobody crossed into Poland. Tusk said Polish intelligence and Nato allies had warned that sabotage or a provocation could take place on the Russian border in early November, prompting Warsaw to tighten security there. Polish officials have repeatedly warned in recent months of hybrid threats from Russia against countries that support Ukraine.
