The United States has said there can be no military solution to Sudan's civil war, after joining representatives of 27 countries in Geneva for the sixth Consultative Meeting on Sudan, The National reports.
Massad Boulos, President Donald Trump's senior adviser on Arab and African affairs, said every day of fighting came at a devastating cost to civilians and risked spreading instability. A drone strike this week killed four people in Chad near the Sudanese border, a local official said.
The war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces began in April 2023. Boulos backed efforts by the African Union, Arab League, UN, EU and IGAD to support a Sudanese-led political process, alongside US work with Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt towards a humanitarian truce.
