The man accused of last Friday's shooting in Trappes and La Verrière, west of Paris, has admitted choosing victims who appeared to be Muslim, African or North African, Al Jazeera reports, citing French anti-terrorism prosecutors.
The 39-year-old, identified as Kevin T, has been formally charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise. Prosecutor Olivier Christen said the suspect had changed his account on Thursday after earlier denying the attack was racist, and had said he picked the area because he considered it a hotbed for Islamists.
One man, 26-year-old Pengo Bossio Wangi, was killed and seven people, including a child, were injured when shots were fired from a car. Investigators said they found weapon parts, a silencer and far-right material at his home, and described a very high level of preparation.
