Nottingham hospital trust sacks 15 staff over Calocane victims’ records

·

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has now dismissed 15 members of staff for looking at the medical records of the three people killed by Valdo Calocane in June 2023, without a legitimate reason to do so.

Barnaby Webber and Grace O'Malley-Kumar, two 19-year-old university students, and school caretaker Ian Coates, 65, died in the Nottingham attacks. The trust's investigation, which covers doctors, nurses and other staff, has also led to 15 final written warnings and two first warnings. In May it had reported 11 dismissals. The victims' families were updated this week.

The trust's medical director apologised to the families and said a new system to detect possible data breaches is being introduced. NHS England announced last month that staff suspected of improperly viewing patient records will be suspended immediately.
