An explosion damaged a section of the Anupgarh to Suratgarh railway line in Sriganganagar district, in India's northern Rajasthan state, on Tuesday night, The Hindu reports. Investigators are treating it as a possible attempt to sabotage a train; a passenger service had used the stretch about 45 minutes earlier.
The blast, near a village known as 50 GB, broke two concrete sleepers, knocked out track fastenings and left a crater about two feet deep. Residents nearby heard the explosion and alerted police. North Western Railway cancelled four trains on the route on Wednesday as a precaution. District police chief Harishankar Yadav said teams from the National Investigation Agency and the state Anti-Terrorism Squad had joined the inquiry, and that the cause and type of explosive would be established once forensic results were available.
