Private capital firm BC Partners is abandoning its bid to relaunch LIV Golf because it could not secure enough commitments from players, ABC News Australia reports, citing the Financial Times and Reuters. The decision reportedly came as a deadline approached to show there was enough player support for a 2027 tournament series.
The league filed for bankruptcy protection in New Jersey in September after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which has put more than $5bn into the league since 2022, said it would end its funding after the 2026 season. BC Partners had agreed in October to provide up to $300m to help it restructure. Several leading players, including former world number one Jon Rahm, have since left. LIV is due at a bankruptcy court hearing in Trenton on Thursday. Neither LIV nor BC Partners commented.
