Norwegian club Viking have won a Champions League match for the first time in their history, beating Sabah of Azerbaijan 4-1 in Stavanger on Wednesday evening, NRK reports. Erik Botheim scored twice, with Zlatko Tripic and Henrik Falchener also on target, after the visitors had taken an early lead on the counter-attack.

Head coach Bjarte Lunde Aarsheim told TV 2 his players had written themselves into the club's history in capital letters. The evening began with a scare when part of a pre-match fireworks display set fire to the artificial pitch near where the teams line up, though ground staff quickly put out the flames. Viking's bench was angered when Sabah did not return the ball after it had been kicked out for an injured player. Sabah's coach, Valdas Dambrauskas, said he had not seen the incident but that his team apologised.
