Two B.C. hospitals declare Code Orange after bus crash near Mackenzie

·

Two hospitals in northern British Columbia declared a Code Orange, a designation normally used for mass casualty events, after a bus crash on Highway 39 south of Mackenzie on Wednesday morning, The Globe and Mail reports. RCMP said there were multiple victims, some with serious injuries, about 180 kilometres north of Prince George.

The bus had been chartered by a contractor working for IREN, a data centre company that has a site near Mackenzie. The firm said it was in close contact with the contractor, emergency services and police. Northern Health said Mackenzie and District Hospital and the University Hospital of Northern BC in Prince George had both activated the alert, but it could not yet say how many patients were involved. The highway was closed while ambulances and an air ambulance responded.
