Argentina's government and the Catholic Church have finalised arrangements for Pope Leo XIV's visit, which begins on Sunday 8 November and will be the first by a pope since John Paul II in 1987, the Buenos Aires Times reports. Leo's predecessor, Francis, was born in Buenos Aires but never went back during his papacy.
Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno met the Vatican's advance team on Monday to settle security, transport and the itinerary, and said the Vatican had asked for no changes despite the pope's surgery in October, when part of his right lung was removed because of a tumour. President Javier Milei will greet him on arrival from Uruguay and meet him on Sunday evening. Two national television broadcasts are planned, including a Mass on Avenida del Libertador on Monday.
