Ukraine has raised the death toll from Monday's Russian strike on an aid distribution point in the Zaporizhzhia region to 40, Al Jazeera reports. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the new figure on Wednesday and said more than 30 people could still be trapped under the rubble in the frontline village of Komyshuvakha.
Russian bombs hit a school building being used to hand out aid, and a follow-up strike reportedly hit a shelter where people had taken cover. Four police officers and two rescuers are among the dead. Local officials said Russian drones were hampering the search, but that rescue work would continue. The UN human rights mission in Ukraine said the attack was likely to have breached international law. The strike came days before US-brokered talks between Ukrainian and Russian delegations due in Abu Dhabi on 10 and 11 November.
