Bomb threat emails target Mumbai mayor’s office and Navi Mumbai schools

·

Emailed bomb threats against the Mumbai mayor's office and three VIBGYOR schools in Navi Mumbai prompted police searches on Friday, The Hindu reports. Nothing suspicious was found.

The message sent to the mayor's office threatened a grenade attack on a school on 31 October and an explosion at Mahalaxmi Racecourse, where the singer Diljit Dosanjh is due to perform on 27 November. It also mentioned actor Amitabh Bachchan's home in Juhu and referred to Khalistan and the 1984 anti-Sikh violence. Police say they have found no link between the sender and the groups named.

The Airoli school sent pupils home early while its Belapur and Kharghar branches were checked. A senior officer said the mayor had received three similar emails in recent months and described them as a pattern of hoaxes. The crime branch and cyber police are trying to trace the sender.
