Colombian police have found 7.6 tonnes of cocaine destined for the Netherlands at the Caribbean port of Cartagena, Euronews reports.
President Abelardo de la Espriella announced the find on Tuesday, calling it the largest cocaine seizure at the port in a decade. Police said the drug was concealed in powdered panela, an unrefined cane sugar, and was found by the anti-narcotics directorate in an operation carried out with the US Drug Enforcement Administration.
The president said security forces had seized 132 tonnes of cocaine in his government's first 75 days. Separately, Dutch prosecutors confirmed that two Dutch nationals wanted in the Netherlands had been arrested in Colombia at their request, although neither country has linked the arrests to the Cartagena seizure.
