Oslo city council has approved the names of the eight districts that will replace the Norwegian capital's current 15, the broadcaster NRK reports.
Among the chosen names are Gamle Oslo, Vestre Aker, Hovin, Frysja and Nordstrand, alongside Gamle Aker, Østensjø and Øvre Groruddalen. The reform itself was agreed in June and takes effect on 1 January 2028.
The vote followed some debate. The Socialist Left Party proposed alternative names for two districts, while the Greens and the Red Party wanted the districts to be numbered rather than named. The Progress Party sought to extend the historic Aker name to two more areas. The county governor is to examine whether the decision may be unlawful, following a request from the Red Party.
