Jordon Steele-John, a Greens senator for Western Australia, has said he is not on leave and has accused the party's leader, David Shoebridge, of pressuring him to step aside after complaints about his conduct became public, Guardian Australia reports.
In a six-page statement released on Sunday, Steele-John said he wanted the allegations, which concern behaviour towards women between 2017 and 2025 and were first reported by Nine newspapers, to be investigated fairly. He claimed an unofficial faction in the state branch had leaked the complaint letter to influence upcoming preselections, calling it factionalism rather than accountability. He described Shoebridge's statement that he was taking leave as a bad call. Guardian Australia said it had asked Shoebridge's office for comment.
