An 18-year-old from Minnesota accused of planning an attack at the Mall of America will remain in jail, a federal magistrate judge ruled on Monday, PBS NewsHour reports, citing the Associated Press.
Prosecutors say Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud was arrested on 6 October in Richfield after paying $600 for an AK-47 rifle and ammunition from an undercover FBI employee posing as an Islamic State member. An FBI agent testified that he planned to strike on 24 October, during a Hmong community arts event, and pledged allegiance to the group's leader when arrested.
Judge Dulce Foster said he was a danger to the community and a flight risk. His lawyer argued that he was 16 when an informant first contacted him and that his only access to weapons came from the FBI.
