The US government has told federal civilian agencies to strip products from the Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek out of their information systems, the South China Morning Post reports.
A Department of Homeland Security notice made public on Monday applies to DeepSeek's own products and to any third-party services built on its AI models. Agencies are also barred from buying DeepSeek products or services, including those from entities affiliated with the company.
The notice said use of the products could lead to sensitive data being transferred to China if they were used by government staff or contractors. It also warned that the models themselves might contain malware or other security weaknesses. DeepSeek is one of China's best-known developers of open-source AI models.
