Alaska's oil and gas regulator has fined Mustang Holding, operator of the Southern Miluveach Unit on the North Slope, $195,214 for four more months of unauthorised natural gas flaring, the Alaska Beacon reports.
The Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission said the company flared gas from April to July this year after its permission ran out in October 2025, and described the flaring as knowing and intentional. The fine, set at twice the market value of the gas burned, follows a $741,520 penalty in July for flaring between November 2025 and March.
Mustang's head of operations said the field was still in a testing phase, that the volumes involved were small, and that it has been injecting the gas rather than flaring it since late September. The company is contesting the first fine and has a month to appeal the second.
