A Nottinghamshire Police officer is in hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot after being shot in Nottingham city centre in the early hours of Sunday.
The force said the officer had gone up to two people on Angel Row shortly before 04:50 BST. Detectives later recovered a gun, while the two suspects, a man and a woman, ran off. Angel Row remained shut on Sunday morning, with the police cordon extended to nearby St James's Street and forensic teams at the scene.
Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas called the shooting shocking and a reminder of the risks officers face. Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward as they try to trace the pair, the BBC reported.
