Retired hurdler Amalie Iuel joins Norway’s athletics team as assistant relay coach

·

Norwegian hurdler Amalie Iuel, who ended her career at the end of September, has been appointed assistant national coach for sprint and relay events by the Norwegian Athletics Federation, NRK reports. Iuel told the broadcaster she had hoped for such an opportunity because the relay project had been close to her heart in recent years, and that she would now be involved from the coaching and leadership side.

Iuel had her best season this year, setting personal bests in the 400 metres hurdles several times, most recently 54.05 seconds in Rome in June, and winning 4×400 metres gold at the World Relays in Botswana. She has trained since 2017 in a group with Karsten Warholm and coach Leif Olav Alnes, and said she expected to keep visiting their sessions. She believes her experience as an athlete will help her as a coach.
